"Contemplating Freedom"

"Contemplating Freedom" explores how we use our hardened exteriors to isolate ourselves. Yet we intuitively know that it is our vulnerability with each other -- our ability to truly be ourselves with one another -- that sets us free.
The paired figures—sculpted and still—echo the marble caves that surround them, suggesting how easily we become lifeless, whether alone or with others. The birds carry the promise of freedom, but only when we break through the stone of expectation and conformity to reveal our true essence.
Like Michelangelo’s angel waiting in the marble, the ability to embrace our uniqueness and share it with others is what finally carves us free.
What part of yourself is still waiting to be carved free?"
